UCSI University UNIFEST 2011: Rise of Rhythm

*This is my longest blog post in my blogging history with approximately 50 photos. Please wait for the photos to load as I guarantee you it’s worth the wait. I kid you not! :)
Normally the night before a shoot, I would psych myself up for the challenges I may face the next day. Good or bad, I can be so psyched that I couldn’t sleep well because I am overly excited.
UCSI University UNIFEST 2011 is another event I’m so hyped up to shoot. And that led me to watching a Joe McNally video. What embedded in my mind so deeply is that he said: “The best equipment in your bag is your attitude.”
And little did I know the BIG TEST came on the next day…
Arrived at the venue early and boy was I treated to a “marvelous” nature’s “treat”. The wind and storm was so powerful that banners and barriers came flying and tumbling down. Jaw dropped, I wondered the possibility of shooting without getting my camera wet.
Ermm.. dry camera all the way… That didn’t happened.
By hook or by crook, the event started. The first one and a half hour of it was raining cats and dogs, and it doesn’t matter if I had a Hassleblad or a Canon 1D Mark 3 if I didn’t started shooting. Thankfully the organizing committee provided 2 disposable plastic rain coats. I had one on myself and one wrapped on my camera like a sandwich which made it hard to shoot.
Although with my Canon 60D wrapped, the camera and lens was pretty wet all the way. I was freaked out! BUT I guess it was the best time to test its weather sealing. I say the camera’s weather sealing is a PASS! ;) Way to go Canon!

The committee did a great job to bring chaos into order. The crowd came, growing little by little.

Naqib and Megan from 8TV Quickie – the MCs of UNIFEST, kickstarted the momentum.

Then came the first dance performance by Ruffneckz with their dynamic moves and organised steps dances.

One of my favourite local band, An Honest Mistake then came on to the stage to play. Clap, clap!

And the BIG SHOW of the day was by Miss Nina, performing to her popular songs like “What You Waiting For”.

Another BIG NAME in the local music industry, Reza Salleh took the stage and mesmerised the rain-soaked energetic crowd.

Shawn Lee, Malaysia’s most famous beatboxer and World No. 9 Beatboxer came blowing the crowd’s mind off. The girls were screaming like mad as though he’s Justin Bieber…

And Alexis aka WanChean (颜莞倩) entertained the crowd to the Bruno Mars’ Lazy Song and her own’s song.

The crowd cheering for a great Saturday night.

And erm.. Megan shaking her butt after Naqib’s turn. I find that totally hilarious.

Busco, previously known as Bus Company also didn’t disappoint the crowd.

Ruffneckz with their Chinese Kung Fu kicks and cheeky moves.

The full crowd!

Kyoto Protocol kicking off.

Goodies were thrown to the crowd. Grab them or let em’ fall to the mud.

Loved the silhouette shots of One Buck Short. I’ll definitely give em’ more than a buck!

The announcement of the iPhone 4 lucky draw came. Everyone was cheering and moaning when they announced the winner. My friend Philip got the iPhone 4. Lucky him! He already has an iPhone… I want..

Ending the event with a bang, DJ Nicky C gave everyone a satisfied conclusion for UNIFEST 2011.

And… the energetic ones made the muddy field their open dance floor. :)

Hope you have enjoyed the whole post with its colorful rhythm. High five for a fully satisfied shoot. Cheers everyone!
